I witnessed the most amazing thing this evening while waiting for my train in the Durham Amtrak station. I was simply sitting on the bench minding my own business when I looked around and heard a man, who sounded like a pastor, preaching to this young man sitting next to him. I couldn’t help but listen to their conversation. This older man kept telling this boy that life is a journey and you need to keep moving forward.

Come to find out, the young boy is struggling with problems paying child support and providing for his child. This young man broke down in tears, he was literally on the floor with his head between his knees saying ‘why me’, ‘why did this happen to me’. The older man kept saying, don’t you see this is a sign from God. A sign that you need to get your life on track and turn it around. The older man talking to him, invited about five other people around him to come over to sit on the same bench and join him in a prayer for this young man. I stayed on my bench and witnessed this from the other side of the train station. At the end of their prayer, they all got out their telephones or notebooks and wrote each others phone numbers down and promised each other that they would all stay in touch.

This made my day. To see that humans can get out of their own bubble for a minute and sympathize with others is truly amazing. I gained a new type of faith in humankind. It was spiritual and moving. I may not have gone over to the young man and sat on the bench with him, but I simply looked at him as we were getting on the train and smiled at him. I said a prayer for him as the others were praying. The magnitude of a smile or prayer can do so much, and I truly hope that whatever that young man is going through in his life he will overcome it and his family and himself will be ok.

Be grateful & go out of your way to do something nice for others. You will get rewarded for it.

Cabin Fever

This past weekend Martin & I traveled up to Boone North Carolina and stayed in a 120 year old cabin! It was definitely a needed vacation for the both of us, good quality time together and sweet memories shared. We had about 50 acres of land behind us where we could roam at our leisure, we also had cows and other animals on the property. We made friends with the neighbors 3 dogs; Oscar, Riley, and Oreo. SO CUTE. Martin & I did a lot of venturing around Boone, spent one day walking and shopping the streets of downtown, spent time at the Original Mast General Store that has been there since the 1820s, went on a beautiful hike, ate tons of yummy food, and rode on the Parkway.

➣We hiked at Elk Knob State Park & were literally on top of the world. The views were amazing, and it was such a beautiful day for a hike. The photo of the house with the little red door is Blowing Rock. We didn’t go out on the rock because we both wanted to wait until the trees and scenery were a tad bit greener but it was definitely cool to visit the landmark! We will be back in the summertime.

Check out some more photos from our trip!

March Mondaze

I know today is Tuesday and not Monday but I have been so busy & jet lagged that I completely lost track of the days. For my usual March Monday post, I want to discuss the hot new hot look for this spring: BOHO.

Bohemian is defined as a native or inhabitant of Bohemia ; a person who has informal or unconventional social habits.

Spring is right around the corner and I have been seeing more Boho style clothing than ever. Some of my favorite places to shop for Boho clothes are FreePeople, Threadscene & Planet Blue. Here are some of my favorite styles and trends for this spring! Shop Away.

I spent my spring break (which was too too short) in Los Angeles aka HOME. It was an amazing week filled with great family time, great weather, and amazing food. The thing that I miss most about home, besides my family, is definitely the food. It is the one place that has a little bit of everything. Literally everything. In just one week, I went to so many different restaurants, venturing to all the parts of LA, and gaining about ten pounds….(oops)

First on the list: Connie & Ted’s – location: 8171 Santa Monica Blvd, in the heart of West Hollywood. Hands down the best seafood spot that my family and I have found in Los Angeles. What to order: Steamers, Hot Lobster Roll, Clam Chowder, or the Catch of the Day!

connie and teds  connie 1

Next on the list: Acai Bowls from Bristol Farms – located: Beverly Blvd ~ Bristol Farms is my all-time favorite grocery store in LA. My dad and I have been going there together since it first opened and it has become a ritual ever since. We like to stroll up and down the aisles discovering new food while we taste the delicious samples. Bristol recently renovated & it is nicer than ever! A must: the acai bowls from the smoothie bar at the front, panini sandwich bar, and the salad bar!

Next stop is…..Blaze Pizza – located: Grove LA ~ one word: amazing. Blaze is fresh & tasty. Need help ordering? Get the works! You can create your own pizza, from the type of sauce to the cheese, to the veggies and different array of meats. Enjoy your creation!  Don’t forget to try the Blood Orange Lemonade to quench your thirst.

Next stop on the list is a place that I have been going to for years!! Volcano Tea House  located: Sawtelle ~ if you like boba, then this is the place to go to! Try it out. What to get? I love the Jasmine Milk Tea Boba or the Black Tea Sweetened Boba.

P.S. While on Sawtelle & if you’re craving sushi go to HIDE. The best sushi in town.

✺ This concludes my food obsession in Los Angeles. I will be posting some home-made recipes later this week.

Enjoy & Be a foodie.

March Mondaze

Happy March Monday!!

Today I am introducing you all to one of my favorite things: Coconut Oil Salt Scrub

This salt scrub includes some of my favorite ingredients: coconut oil & epsom salt. I first discovered this yummy scrub when I was staying at a hotel in Wilmington, North Carolina. I loved it so much that I wanted to buy some in the gift shop until I saw the price on it and thought that I could make it myself. The scrub can be used for your hands, feet, and body. I love this because it leaves your skin smooth to the touch and looking healthy. Perfect to use on dry, itchy skin or as a simple moisturizer.

✵Ingredients: coconut oil, epsom salt, essential oils (optional, but not necessary)

✵ Mix the coconut oil and epsom salt together, if wanted use essential oils for fragrance. Store the scrub in an air-tight container. I prefer to keep my salt scrub in a mason jar, but thats just me!

XOXO go get your scrub on!

Open Market Sundays

Sundays in Los Angeles are my favorite. It’s the best day to sleep in, have that late ‘brunch’, and walk around the open markets all day long.

I’ve been going to the open market since I was a little girl with my mom. It has always been our Sunday ritual together! Buying fresh vegetables and fruits for the week and you can’t forget the beautiful flowers.

Make it your Sunday ritual to find a open market near you!

Quote of the week

All week long this quote has been at the back of my mind, since I just spent most of last week building and putting together my resume to apply to summer jobs and internships…Remember to do things and take risks in life to improve your life. Every situation that is presented to you is given to you with reason. Don’t do something because it will “look good” on your resume, do it because you have a desire to live life and live it to its fullest.

March Mondaze

HAPPY MARCH!! I can’t believe March is already here! Wasn’t it just Christmas?

Starting every Monday for the entire month of March, I will be posting my favorite fashion trends or DIY projects. Get excited because I am!

So I know March can be an awkward time for your closet because depending on where you live it can still be reallyyyy cold, but hopefully it’s warming up a little bit…today in North Carolina it was 70 degrees!! We went from the single digits last week to the 70s today, now that’s what I’m talking about. One of my favorite fashion trends for getting ready for the spring is the: Bright Sweater Collection

Check it out!

☀︎ Such a great look! Hot Pink Blazer with cuffed sleeves, a polka dot shirt, and your favorite pair of jeans. My favorite part of this entire outfit is the hot pink contrasting with the simple gold jewelry. Classy yet playful.

☀︎Bring on the yellow! Perfect way to layer up and still look cute. I could do without the gold necklace but I love the contrast between navy blue and yellow. The colors always look great together without much effort.

☀︎ Hello Summer….for those of you who live in the warmer regions of the world, you can start summer early by shopping this look. I love the orange/coral sweater with the light wash Oneteaspoon shorts and the tan body!

Hope you enjoy & get your closet ready for March!
